Crown and Bridge
Problem: Damaged, Misshapen or Missing Teeth
Is your tooth heavily restored, badly damaged or requires extraction? Are you worried that there will be a gap in your smile? Our dental office in Grimsby offers many restorative services, including dental crowns and bridges, to restore a missing tooth’s function and esthetics.
What is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped restoration that completely covers a damaged tooth or dental implant and restores the function and appearance. Dental crowns are made out of various materials, including metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, resin and ceramic. Each tooth crown is custom-made to match your natural teeth and blend into your smile. A dental crown can be cemented or screwed onto the tooth or implant and is a long-term fixed solution for damaged or heavily restored teeth.
What is a Dental Bridge?
A traditional dental bridge is a restoration that spans a gap created by a missing tooth (or teeth) by joining a false tooth with dental crowns placed on the adjacent teeth or dental implants. Apart from the traditional bridge, there are also two other types: cantilever and Maryland bonded bridge. A cantilever bridge is used when only one adjacent tooth is present. Maryland bonded bridge doesn’t rely on adjacent teeth and uses either metal or porcelain framework to support the falls tooth. Like dental crowns, dental bridges can be made out of various materials and are either cemented or screwed on. They are a long-term fixed teeth replacement solution, that depending on the care, many require replacement every 5-15 years.
