Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry

Is your dental health suffering because you are anxious or nervous to see a dentist? Do you keep postponing your appointments despite the urgent need for dental treatment?

We want you to know that you are not the only one who is feeling this way. This is why our dental practice offers sedation dentistry services to help you get back on track with your oral health.

What sedation options do we offer?

Currently, we offer two types of sedation in our office to make you feel relaxed and comfortable during the appointment: nitrous oxide and oral sedation.

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas): is a safe sedative commonly used in dental offices. Mixed with oxygen, nitrous oxide is inhaled through the mask to make you feel more relaxed and less anxious. This sedative leaves you conscious and responsive to everything that is happening throughout the appointment. Once the dentist removes the mask, the calming properties of nitrous oxide gas will be gone almost immediately.

Oral sedation: involves taking a prescribed oral sedative before the appointment. The dentist may prescribe a light sedative that will make you more relaxed and/or lightheaded; or a moderate sedative that may leave you groggy to the point that you may fall asleep during the appointment. The effects of oral sedation can last up to a few hours. Therefore you will not be able to drive a car following the appointment.

All sedation options are for anxiety management. Therefore a local anesthetic will also be used during the appointment for pain management.
